Sonnda graduated in nutrition from the University of Glasgow in 1997 later gaining a Masters in Public Health. For the last 15 years, she has worked in the NHS undertaking research on healthy eating, healthy weight, physical activity, coronary heart disease, alcohol, national alcohol policy, Scotland's mental health and the link between optimism and health.

She has professional qualifications in wine, chocolate, pâtisserie and bread-making and has worked under some of Britain’s top chocolate-making talent, including William Curley, Britain’s Best Chocolatier 2007-2011, and Damian Allsop, creator of innovative water-based ganache chocolates. She has also written for the List’s annual Eating and Drinking Guide.

She is passionate about food sustainability, eating natural, local and seasonal. She currently lives and works in Glasgow.
